About Us

Rand Mutual Assurance (RMA) was founded in 1894 by three mining companies as a mutual assurance company to insure and administer workmen’s compensation benefits. RMA was incorporated as a public company in the same year, and as a Mutual, our policyholders automatically became our shareholders. We are passionate about our clients and our people, and strive to treat everyone in our shared communities with Care and Compassion.

RMA’s strategic focus is on strengthening our leading position in social insurance and its administration (mandatory COID-related cover), which remains our core business. Our strategy goes further to leverage our leadership position to grow our non-COID business, extending appropriate and effective cover to workers and their dependents under short- and long-term insurance licences issued by the Prudential Authority. The Group is organised into two business clusters, each with a particular strategic focus; namely strengthening and growing our COID, and our non-COID businesses. These clusters are designed to work together to grow the Group’s market share through greater penetration of our offerings, and to achieve the ultimate outcome of becoming a diversified and trusted social insurance partner.
