THE JOB AT A GLANCE

 

As the Data Analyst you will be responsible for applying data analytics techniques such as mining, generation, and visualisation, to deliver unparalleled Big Data support and service to the business. You will also be responsible for transforming data into readable, goal-driven reports for continued innovation and growth.

 

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

 

Data Management

  • Determine the most reliable source for data.
  • Develop and maintain databases by acquiring data from primary and secondary sources and build scripts that will make our data evaluation process more flexible or scalable across data sets.
  • Assist in the classification, collection, cleaning, loading, analysis, presentation and reporting of data according to the RMA definition: Sensitive (high risk) and Public (low risk).
  • Maintain complete, accurate, valid and timely data.
  • Continuously ensure accuracy, integrity and quality of data (access control, backup, etc.) by developing and implementing programs for data quality improvement.
  • Extract data from RMA systems and conduct a thorough analysis on the information retrieved.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain leading-edge analytic systems, taking complicated problems and building simple data frameworks.
  • Identify trends and opportunities for growth through analysis of complex data sets.
  • Identify data entities and data sources that comprise enterprise data.
  • Evaluate organizational methods and provide source-to-target mappings and information-model specification documents for data sets.
  • Update and maintain the documentation of each data element policy, data source, data provenance, data element business name, and data element definition on an ongoing basis.
  • Resolve issues with regards to standard definitions for data elements that cross business boundaries.
  • Resolve conflicts in the definition of centrally used data attributes.
  • Evaluate internal systems for efficiency, problems, and inaccuracies, developing and maintaining protocols for handling, processing, and cleaning data.
  • Define and implement data acquisition and integration logic, selecting appropriate combination of methods and tools within defined technology stack to ensure optimal scalability and performance of the solution

 

Monitor adherence to data related compliance frameworks, policies and procedures

  • Monitor compliance with Enterprise data Governance Policy.
  • Monitor and update procedures that satisfy specified information security requirements, including legal and statutory compliance obligations with the Financial Services Board, Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA), Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) and Electronic Communications and Transactions Act (ECTA.)

 

Drive business needs analyses and continuous improvement initiatives

  • Work directly with management and users to gather requirements, provide status updates, and build relationships.
  • Provide consulting services to the business to assist data users in the interpretation and use of data, as and when required.
  • Lead analysis initiatives and service improvement reviews across the business.
  • Work closely with project managers to understand and maintain focus on their analytical needs, including identifying critical metrics and KPIs, and deliver actionable insights to relevant decision-makers.
  • Proactively analyse data to answer key questions from stakeholders or out of self-initiated curiosity with an eye for what drives business performance, investigating and communicating areas for improvement in efficiency and productivity.

 

Reporting

  • Create best-practice reports based on data mining, analysis, and visualization.
  • Create and maintain rich interactive visualizations through data interpretation and analysis integrating various reporting components from multiple data sources.
  • Define delivery modes for transmitting and reporting enterprise data.
  • Prepare and submit ad hoc reports on information retrieved and analysed.
  • Create regular information reports to be presented to management and the business.
  • Produce daily, weekly and monthly reports to internal and external stakeholders including but not limited to Ops management, the business Exco, relevant regulatory and compliance committees.

 

WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO THE TABLE?

 

  • NQF Level 7: Bachelor’s Degree (BSc. in Statistics, Mathematical Statistics, Computer Science, Data Analytics).
  • Intermediate SQL, MS Word, Advanced Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • 3-5 years’ experience as a Data Analyst.
  • Data analyst experience within a BI environment is a must.
  • Data cleansing experience.
  • Proven analytic skills, including mining, evaluation, analysis, and visualization.
  • Technical report writing experience in relevant areas, including queries, reports, and presentations with experience using SSRS, PowerBI and automation of jobs.
  • Prior experience with database and model design and segmentation techniques
  • Strong development experience in tools like SQL, SSIS and SSAS.
  • Practical experience in statistical analysis through the use of statistical package like Excel and R.
  • Proven success in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to interpret and present complex data concepts.
  • Strong development experience in SQL, SSRS,SSIS, SSAS and Excel skills with the ability to learn other analytic tools.
  • Proven analytic skills, including mining, evaluation, analysis, and visualization.
  • Prior experience with database and model design and segmentation techniques.
